Instructi e-mail: jiro@is.tsukuba.ac.jp TUTORIALS Deadline: 30th November 2000 Leading researchers and practitioners have the opportunity to present a tutorial on Monday 9th and/or Tuesday 10th July. Tutorials may cover any aspects of Human-Computer Interaction but Human Interaction and Communication are particularly welcome. Tutorials will be selected by a panel of referees and will only run if they attract the required minimum number of participants. Tutorials will be chosen on the basis of quality of presentation and value to the audience. Tutorial instructors are eligible for some reimbursement of expenses and a modest fee. Submit a tutorial proposal by the deadline date for submissions: 30th November 2000 Additional inquiries to:Tomio Watanabe (Okayama Prefectural University) tel: +81-866-94-2105 fax: +81-866-94-2199 e-mail: watanabe@cse.oka-pu.ac.jp WORKSHOPS Deadline: 30th November 2000 Workshops provide 1 or 2 day forums for participants to exchange experience and explore research issues or topics of special interest to the HCI community. Workshops should have specific objectives, address stimulating topics and aim to report their activity. Workshops usually have about 20 participants and meet within the two-day period prior to the conference. Proposal should be no more than 1000 words and should include objectives, theme/topic, workshop organisation and duration, target audience, and expected outcomes. Submit a workshop proposal by the deadline date for submission: 30th November 2000 Additional inquiries to:Yasushi Ikei (Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Technology) tel: +81-42-585-8672 fax: +81-42-583-5119 e-mail: ikei@tmit.ac.jp SHORT PAPERS Deadline: 20th February 2001 Submissions for short papers are invited, addressing any of the areas identified in the conference topics. Authors are encouraged to submit late-breaking research results and work in progress that show the latest innovative ideas to stimulate audiences. Short paper submissions should report original work and must not have been published previously nor be a shortened version of previously published papers. Short papers must be submitted in English. Submissions are limited to 2 pages in length and the format must be the same as for a long paper. The review process will retain the anonymity of authors and reviewers. DOCTORAL CONSORTIUM Deadline: 30th November 2000 Submissions are invited from current postgraduate students undertaking doctoral study who would benefit from detailed discussions of their doctoral research by a panel of established researchers and peers. The consortium will operate in a workshop format, providing feedback on the participants' current research and guidance for future directions. Extended abstracts by the participating students will be published in the conference proceedings. Participants for the consortium will be selected by the Doctoral Consortium Committee. Some of the participating students may be invited to submit a full paper where the Committee considers the work to be appropriate. The Doctoral Consortium will take place immediately preceding the main conference. Students chosen to attend the doctoral consortium will have their conference registration fees waived.
